long time no journal, da
i haven't posted much here lately, and was just thinking about how much i used to love putting my con reports here so i could look back on them at a later date. i definitely have been bad at that, considering i've been to five cons already this year LOL. the main ones i have left are san japan and dragon con. i'm probably sitting out afest so that i can get some cosplay done for d con, which, as busy as i have been i will probably welcome the free weekend. i want to attend onicon, but it's going to depend entirely on whether or not a kickstarter project i will be apart of gets funded. more on that later, though
this year has been a whirlwind of photography, renovations and a bunch of other awesome stuff. right now i'm sitting on 550 published photos, and that's before adding in the bulk of a-kon which will be 310 photos... these are all photos that i post processed, etc. just saying i spent 15 minutes per photo (which is extremely generous considering i will have individual shots that take at least an hour to edit sometimes) that is 137.5 hours JUST in post processing, not including the time it took to do the shoots, filter through usable shots, etc. THAT IS INSANE TO ME. and that's before a-kon, which was a beast. i am both wondering how crazy i am and wanting to pat myself on the back for working this hard this year. i love it!
my 9-5 job is still the same, and i still enjoy it quite a bit. jason and i are still renovating, but we've made a good deal of progress and are working on getting to the top of the hill, and everything should be going pretty quickly once we are there. i actually have a pretty good amount of freelance work going on at the moment, which is super awesome and something i never thought would be possible. hard work, motivation, hard work, determination, more hard work, and some hard work have definitely worked in my benefit :3 of course i am still learning and trying to level up my knowledge, technique and skill, but i am amazed at the progress i have made from even this time last year, let alone when i decided to start taking photography more seriously. i'm still not quite there to make it my full time career, but damnit if i'm not going to try to get to the point where i can if i wanted to.
as crazy busy as i have been, i am so incredibly grateful to have the people in my life that i do. i have made some wonderful, lifelong friends over the years and i am reminded pretty frequently what great people they are in my life and how lucky i am to have crossed paths with them. i'm not really sure what clicked but i've been doing more things that i have been wanting to do forever but put off for silly reasons (i'll pierce my nose when i am self employed, i'll dye my hair when i'm self employed, i'll wear that type of dress when i'm thinner, i'll buy that makeup later but not now, etc.), and it has truly been super freeing and amazing feeling. it's crazy what limitations we put on ourselves for whatever stupid reason, but i'm finally starting to learn that there is no better time than now to do the things that you want to do, and who gives a fuck what other people think
